The history
“Sometimes all that's needed is a little space and someone willing to believe in you.”
Mr. Smith was a local grocery store owner. Mr. Ballard was a barber. As a young man, Mr. Ballard had the talent and the drive to start a barber business, but no place to work — so he asked Mr. Smith if he could use the storage room in the back of the grocery store.
Mr. Smith said yes. The two cleaned out the space together and readied it by hand so Mr. Ballard could open his doors. He later moved next door into a shop of his own and became known as Belmont's barber — but he never forgot the man who made room for him in the beginning.
That simple story of hospitality, hard work and generosity is what Smith & Ballard is built on.
